Bankruptcy

There are two primary types of personal bankruptcy: Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Chapter 7 is called liquidation. It is the most common.
Chapter 13 allows debtors to keep property, such as a house or car.

In Chapter 13, the court approves a repayment plan with a default date.

Bankruptcy can erase debt, stop foreclosure, repossessions, and other debt collections. Bankruptcy usually doesn't erase child support, taxes, alimony, fines, and some student loans.
Recent credit debts incurred can not be claimed.
Bankruptcy remains on your credit report for 10 years.
